Expoundings

Okay, the first really cool thing I need to expound upon was the Natalie MacMaster concert I attended on Thursday evening. It was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced, and it pretty much convinced me that I need to become a Cape Breton style fiddler. (Note: Cape Breton is an island in Nova Scotia and is the heart of Irish/Scottish fiddling this side of the ocean)

We were front row, and the people next to me didn't mind my clapping and pretty much dancing in my chair. You can't hear that music and stay still. We even had the perfect angle to see the way she plays. I was flying all evening and even danced out to the car afterward.

Oh, and her pipe player was awesome too. I've never heard bagpipes played that way. And she broke four hairs on her bow during the show. Afterward I got one of the stage crew to give one of them to me. And then the pipe player came back out on stage and gave me a set list taped to the floor. We were the last ones to leave the hall.

Anyway, I did some fiddling of my own that evening, as we needed to rehearse/audition our variety show act, The Devil Went Down to Georgia. I think we should be able to pull it together, we just need to find a couple more times to practice. Adam is playing guitar and doing vocals, David is playing the piano part, and Joel is on drums. I am eternally grateful to all of them for helping me out.

Moving on to Friday...

Friday night was the 80's dance here in Sully. For more details, see Dianna's blog. After the dance I played a little DDR and then hung our with my friends far to late into the morning.

On Saturday my parents took me shopping and I bought a very expensive, but very cool, digital camera. It wasn't entirely impulsive, I'd been thinking about it for quite some time now. So I was playing with it while doing laundry at Grandma's house that evening. I got to take cute pictures of my little cousins, as they happened to be visiting Grandma this weekend. Oh, and Grandma is doing much better healthwise. She still can't do quite everything she used to, but she acts just as spunky as ever. ;)

That night a bunch of us went to the Firehouse and played games until they closed at midnight. Then we watched Aladin back at the dorm. It had been raining all day and at one point during the movie, Dianna got dripped on. There is apparently still one leak in our roof. So we put a tub under it and endured the dripping for the rest of the movie.

Sunday involved lunch with Dianna, Dianna's mom, Marc and Carrie. It also involved ear camdles, which I don't feel like describing right now. And then I worked in the writing center and helped my first student. And I did manage to get my own homework done through all this. At least, I got through the essentials, so I made it through the day.

I think that's enough for now. Tomorrow we leave early in the morning for the Nobel Conference. Details to follow when we return.

Fiddles and Lack of Sleep

So, yeah. I've had internet access in my room since Thursday, but have been completely unable to get anything up here because of insane business. It included, but was not limited to, various movies, Firehouse excursions, laundry, camera purchasing, an 80's dance and the most amazing concert I have ever been to in my life.

Hopefully I will soon expound on that, but right now I must attack my philosophy reading for class tomorrow. Wish me luck, and pray that I don't fall asleep in class.

Just an Explanation...

Hey all. I realize I haven't posted for a while, and I'm still not really going to say anything of censquence. Of course, when I haev I ever done that to begin with? At any rate, I won't be posting again until I have internet in my room because I don't like spending randomly massive ammounts of time in the computer lab. So, yeah. You'll get posts when I get internet. Until then, maybe you could take up a new hobby to fill your time. Croqett is rather pleasant. ;)

Writing all day long

Well, I suppose I should do a quick update before I get all busy and it turns into an entire week without news. All of my classes seem to be going well. Psych is actually rather boring, but I like having a sluph class, it gives me more time to focus on more important things like Philosophy, all of my music and my own writing.

Speaking of writing, it is now official that Dianna and I will both be working in the Writing Center, though the exact hours are not yet set in stone. Having actual spending money will be a good thing. Then I can go to random movies and buy the new VeggieTales when it comes out in November. And, it just a god thing for an English major to do, in my opinion. After all, what if I end up working in a publishing firm someday? Plus, if there's time when no one has come for help, it should be a good environment for doing my own writing.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Aberdeen for my Uncle allan's fall piano recital. It should be good, he's an amazing pianist. And I'll get to see a lot of my family there. Of course, Aberdeen is a rather long drive, so I won't be back until sometime on Saturday, which will make it awkward to get my laundry done this weekend, especially if I want to go visit Grandma June. Complicatedness!

LifeLight! Woot!

Okay, so there's absolutely no way I'd be able to tell you every cool thing that happened this weekend, so I'm not even going to bother trying. No, that doesn't mean you get nothing. It simply means that I'm accepting the fact that this will be terribly incomplete. I think we'll look basically at some of the "best" moments.

Best concert: This would have to go to the Supertones, in spite of my lifetime infatuation with the Newsboys. After all, ska rules. And, it's their farewell tour! This was the last major festival that they'll ever do! And, I was front and center in the mosh pit. Though, thankfully there was no actual moshing. We did jump up and down a lot though. And I did quite a lot of pseudo-headbanging. I don't think I've ever enjoyed myself more at a concert. Yay for band geeks! I seriously took 5 or 6 pictures of the trombone player just to make sure I get a good one. I seriously need to get a digital camera. Dianna has a really awesome one, though, and we got some amazing pictures on it. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, Supertones rocked me so hard I may never be entirely sane again. Of course, that involves being sane to begin with...

Best crowd: Early on Sunday there was this band we'd never hear of called the Livingstons. They actually tuned out to be really cool, but these three guys right behind us were cheering for them before they knew who they were. The lead singer called them on it and then they started chanting "you might rock! You might rock!" Those guys were so much fun.

Scariest moment: Okay, now this is just stupid. Of all the concerts I was at, including Day of Fire at the Souled Out stage, my scariest moment was at Third Day. Now, Third Day is very much not a mosh pit band. But when Mac Powell came and reached out to the crowd right in front of me, suddenly about 15 people behind me were all trying to pound his fist at the same time. That was not pleasant. Not at all. But, thankfully, after that one big press they settled down. And since I was trying to get pictures and protect Dianna's camera right then, I was very much relieved.

Best food: Well, I really only had hot dogs and lemonade the whole weekend, but they were free from the Special Olympics booth where Dianna's family was working. I love her family; they take such good care of me.

Most random coolness: Okay, so Dianna's friend Brandon is from Omaha (and almost every band this weekend seemed to be from Nebraska; seriously, it's an invasion) and knows one of the smaller bands, and he offered to give us a ride back to campus before they invited him to hang with them at Taco Bell. So we got to go hand with the band at Tace Bell at midnight. And while we were there I ran into my senior English student teacher. And we were so exhausted that absolutely everything stupid seemed terribly funny. I ended up with the quote: "I want to hear a voice that most people will agree is real." If that's not random, I don't know what is.

And now I'm realizing that I've spent far to much time in the computer lab and should go do some of my homework. There may be more to follow later, and there may not. It depends on when I get internet in my room.
