Isolation ended

Well, I suppose at least a few of you are wondering what has become of me during my week of isolation. Well, mostly I worked. Things are absolutely crazy at Hy-Vee right now. The new section is open, which means everything is moving. We even moved our product from the produce case to our own separate one, which used to hold bacon. (The bacon was temporarily in a case in the front next to Gatorade and water. That case has now been filled with corn and tomatoes, but it’s not much of an improvement.) We now have an entire separate case for our fruit and veggie pizzas. This means that we now have to make a whole lot more of them than before, which means that I am now the Tuesday/Thursday pizza girl. I like that. Not that I really have anything against the work I was doing earlier in the summer, but I like building pizzas better. And we thought I had avoided working at a pizza place this summer. ;) Anyways, life in the salad bar is looking good. And the best part is, I’ll get to come beck next summer to a guaranteed job! Not to mention getting a few hours during breaks this school year. In fact, with the new case, we’re needing more people to keep our department running smoothly. But Doug is so pleased with our case that he doesn’t mine giving the department more hours. Deb is even getting a new assistant. Of course, there is still chaos in the rest of the store. In fact, the old freezer cases have been removed and they cut actual holes in the floor. They were doing more cutting today which put so much dust in to the air that we had to cover the salad bar.

I also got a lot of work done on that mural. The gym doesn’t have its air running, but there are fans, which help the paint dry faster as well as make me feel better. Of course, it’s still big and empty and very creepy after dark. I learned that the hard way on Wednesday. That experience made me decide that I want to get a dog when I’m done with school; I’m not so good at this alone stuff. Especially in the dark. But I’m having lots of fun doing the mural. With the whole gym to myself I can crank up the Refuge, paint barefoot and just have fun. Actually, I was going to paint some more today, but I gave my mom her keys back, so I can’t get in right now.

For entertainment and relaxation, this weekend featured a Friday night double feature: Stargate (extended cut) followed by Alex & Emma. An odd combination to most, but for Amanda and me (Kevin doesn't count, he voted against the chick flick) it's just another movie night. I find it enjoyable to be as confusing as possible to the rest of the world. ;)

This weekend was the last community band concert I will be able to participate in this summer. It went pretty well. The band sounded good and it wasn’t too hot. And the new orchestra director in town did some awesome fiddling. I want to do that. Unfortunately, my most vivid memory of the evening is not so pleasant. I was walking across the grass to join my family after the concert, I found a wire hanger in the grass. I found it as it punctured the skin on the top of my right big toe. My question is this: how did the hanger get in the park in the first place? Honestly, who leaves a wire hanger in the park? Who brings a wire hanger to the park?

Meh.

Anyways, I survived my week alone and am ready to zoom through the rest of the summer. Next week we’re off to Family Camp. (I like sending postcards, so if you’d like to be on the receiving end email me your home address.) Of course, we’ll be apparently leaving late and coming back early to accommodate my father’s play rehearsal schedule. Yes, play rehearsal. My dad is playing Chief Sitting Bull in the Brookings Community Theatre’s production of Annie Get Your Gun. He got roped into the part after they lost their first two actors. He seems to be enjoying it, but it’s a lot of work to catch up. He hasn’t been in a real play since before I was born, so I’m really excited to see it. My family may be attending the show on Sunday Aug. 14, the weekend after we get back from camp. Or we may go opening night. We may go several times. It all depends.

But I think that’s about it. Have fun. I intend to have a fudgecicle and be a blob on the sofa.

You know my ADDRESS, because it's the same. If you lost it, call me...or address it to NOWHERE, SOMEWHERE-EAST-OF-SPAIN.

Let's go fly a kite...

P.S. I own Alex & Emma, too. Kevin shall be delighted by it somehow, some day..., or not.

it should be noted that I don't generally object to chick flicks. In most cases I rather enjoy them. Alex & Emma just has a couple scenes that rub me the wrong way.... taints the movie for me...
