Calling all bounty hunters

Today work had its ups and downs. One thing I feel I should mention is that one of the last things I did was answer the phone and take an order. Now, we’re supposed to inform the caller that they’ve reached the salad bar and say who’s speaking. But I’ve been thinking about that. They’re not actually talking to the salad bar. And if they were, the phone probably would have been answered by the baby carrots or the cottage cheese. So I’ve had the urge to answer the phone with: “Hy-Vee salad bar, spinach speaking.” Not that I ever would, but… ;)

Anyways, last night I had a blockbuster evening with my friends. Liz, Barbara and I went to Batman Begins and then got ice cream. Unfortunately, there were too many bugs in the park for us to stay there long. So we went back to Barbara’s house and watched the beginning of Phantom of the Opera while playing Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, Saga Edition. The fancy title means the questions cover all six movies. I played as Obi Wan, and yes, I won. The Force runs strong in my family. ;)

On that note, my mother has put out a bounty on Han Solo. Earlier this summer Burger King was giving away Star Wars toys, and my family managed to collect nearly all of them, including the somewhat rare Darth Vader. However, the single toy we did not get our hands on was Han, who was given out the first week of the series. It’s kind of ironic, really. The smuggler has slipped past us, and now we put a bounty on his head. It’s actually my mom who is most obsessed with completing our collection and who asked me to post this here. Further proof that the Force does indeed run strong in my family.

Further family news, my mom got her booth number for the Arts Festival. So now we know that she will indeed be in her usual spot. Which is a good thing, because that puts us on the grass and under the trees, which keeps the temps down during the day. We don't have any familiar neighbors, but that's okay. It's always fun to meet other artists. And I will get to meet them, since I don't have to work that weekend and can spend the entire time in the park at the booth. Lots of people hang out at our booth. In fact, at any given point in time you're likely to find any number of teenagers enjoying the shade and chairs. It is the meeting point for all our friends who can make it out to the park. I realize that this probably seems rather strange to a lot of you, but my family has been doing this for as long as I can remember. So I would consider it strange if we ever didn't have the festival.

May the Force be with you
-Kim

I command you to answer the phone as random veggies, thereby delighting consumers and yourself alike. It keeps customers on their toes and breaks the ice. They'll ask your name if they're interested and you'll definitely give 'em a laugh. Consider it...or something may happen.
