fire

Apparently there is another thing ubiquitous among dorms, be they graduate or otherwise: fire alarms. We had a scheduled fire drill on Tuesday night (which I got to miss because I was in class), and then it went off again tonight, just after 7:00. Let me tell you, that alarm is loud! Everyone was pretty confused, since the scheduled one had been only two days ago. But, we all made our way out to the quad as instructed, and waited around for a while. It was at this point that we realized that only our building was affected, making it more likely that something was really going on. Our RD shortly confirmed this. Apparently a "piece of wood" caught fire, making a lot of smoke in the basement. Huh? Do we have stacks of firewood down there or something? She wouldn't say anything more specific, but it may have been related to construction going on in the computer lab. (The wall has leaked all summer, and they're finally repairing it.) There were fire trucks and everything--the whole nine yards. We went to check it out when they let us back in, but there are no signs of damage anywhere in the basement. I was all excited, too, to have finally experienced a fire alarm caused by something bigger than burnt popcorn.

While we were waiting to get back in, we wandered over to Quadside, a hang out spot in one of the other dorms. They were showing "Kung-Fu Panda." I never was very interested in that one, but I watched it for a bit anyway. Now I suppose I should return to my reading, which the fire alarm so rudely interrupted. But now I can rest easy, having informed you all of the most exciting thing to happen thus far at Simmons College and North Hall.

Tomorrow should be even better--look forward to that post!
